| "The artist's mission is to make the soul perceptible. Visionary art encourages the development of our inner sight. To find the visionary realm, we use the intuitive inner eye: The eye of contemplation; the eye of the soul." - Alex Grey |
MicroCoSM Gallery presents "Salon of Visionaries", a show of iris giclee prints of some of visionary art's living masters. The term iris giclee describes a contemporary category of printmaking in which signed limited edition fine art prints of archival quality are produced from a digital source using ink-jet printing. Salon includes works by: Paul Laffoley, a radical self-taught artist, has graphically depicted every canto of Dante's Divine Comedy and designed a levitating gyroscope, a machine for which the physics has yet to be discovered. Mars-1 explores the possibilities of other-worldly existence through his alien-like characters that float passively through highly developed multilayered backgrounds, hovering between landscapes and abstract paintings. Robert Venosa discovered the magic and magicians of the Fantastic/Visionary world of art inspired by his mentors Mati Klarwein, Ernst Fuchs and Salvador Dali. German-born artist, Martina Hoffman, sees herself as a 'translator' of Magical Realism for her visions which guide and inspire her paintings that portray fantasy with impeccable technical skill. Carey Thompson credits the universal matrix as the source of his art which he describes as "holomorphic transmission vision crystals" based on sacred geometry and patterns of nature that revea the interconnectedness of all things. Luke Brown's art is a medium for spiritual growth inspired by mystical experiences, dreams, channels and medicine journeys. Robin Larsen primarily a maker of assemblages and masks, small bronze figures, and giant puppets, is co-founder of the Center for Symbolic Studies and co-biographer of the late great mythologist, Joseph Campbell.
Mikio Kennedy, t-shirts and poster designer/creator for the Grateful Dead, is widely regarded for his visionary and fantastic imagery as well as being a popular D.J. After painting over 40 record covers for California-based rock bands, Guy Aitchison studio became one the most respected artistic tattoo establishments in the world, representing in both paintings and tattoos, a terrain of the inner realm that is at once familiar and fantastic. Inspired by natural forms, Michele Wortman creates organic compositions in diverse mediums including photography, tattooing, painting, writing and music.
Alex Grey, co-founder of the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, (CoSM, NYC), interweaves biological anatomy with psychic/spiritual energies in visual meditations on the nature of consciousness that has led to international renown. Allyson Grey's paintings invent a symbol system representing an essentialized world view that includes three elements: chaos, order and secret writing.
